About the Facilitator

Neo Jenny is presently Principal Choreographer of the Singapore Chinese Dance Theatre (SCDT), as well as guest lecturer at the LaSalle-SIA College of the Arts and School of the Arts, Singapore.

She started her training in Chinese classical and Chinese ethnic folk dance at the age of ten. To further enrich herself, Jenny later also pursued ballet, jazz and hip-hop. In 2004, she was awarded grants from the National Arts Council and Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan to further her professional training at the Beijing Dance Academy, where she studied Dance Choreography. To develop her range, Jenny later also enrolled in LaSalle-SIA College of the Arts, and graduated with a BA (Honours) in Dance in 2009. Over the course of her studies, Jenny has come under the tutelage of, as well as collaborated with, many renowned and experienced dance practitioners who have greatly value-added to her learning.

Jenny actively choreographs for her dance company, schools, external events and competitions, and major national events like the Chingay Parade and National Day Parade. She has produced many outstanding works, earning herself high recognition in the dance industry. In 2011, she participated in the “Sprouts – New Works Platform for Budding Choreographers” event with her work “The Invisible Entity”. The piece received the “Most Popular Work” and “Best Dancer” awards. In 2014, Jenny took a bold leap and choreographed a full-length dance drama “The Wilderness”, which received overwhelming positive response when it was performed at the “Third China Cao Yu Culture Week” held in Qianjiang, China. In 2015, She was one of the main choreographers for the production “Returning” performed at the Singapore International Festival of Arts 2015. In 2017, She was the chief choreographer of the dance drama “The Voyage Down South” performed at the Singapore Hokkien Festival 2017“Our Roots, Our Bonds”. Many of Jenny’s work have also received the Gold with Honours and Gold Awards at the Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) Central Judging for dance (presently known as the SYF Arts Presentation).
